New Colors for 2022: Swatch ‘Em All

New Colors for 2022: Swatch ‘Em All

2021 is coming to a close, with thoughts of the New Year and the future it brings—including what colors will be trending! Every year, consumers and designers await color picks from Sherwin Williams, Behr, Benjamin Moore, and the much-hyped Pantone. Each brand selects a unique color of the year—a shade they believe will influence everything from interior design to trends in products and accessories. And if one brand’s choice isn’t your thing, another color of the year choice may tempt your paint palette.

PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri

With great fanfare, Pantone announced its Color of the Year 2022: Very Peri. The self-proclaimed global authority on color described Very Peri as “displaying a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, inquisitive and intriguing.”

That’s a lot of pressure to place on a color. And for the first time ever, Pantone created Very Peri from scratch, presenting us with a brand-new shade for Color of the Year. This playful, purple-y tone utilizes blue hues and violet-red undertones. The brand touts it as “a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.” But what do the rest of us think?

Is Very Peri a Winner?

When it comes to design, everyone’s a critic. So, naturally, we asked Brook employees to share their thoughts on Very Peri: the good, the bad, and the ugly. Most of our respondents like Very Peri, while a few others were decidedly unimpressed.

Flower Power

Not sure why, but I think of a flower, maybe hydrangeas. It’s bright and happy. I like it, but in smaller pieces. Maybe an accent piece in the color would be nice to brighten up a gray or white space… like a picture, comfy side chair, lamp, or rug.

— Karen, Customer Solutions Specialist

I love the color. It makes me think of lilac bushes blooming outside my front door, filling the house with their sweet smell. Bring back summer, please!

— Annie, Senior Director of Human Resources

It makes me think of springtime and Easter bunny baskets. It’s like periwinkle—one of my favorite colors.

— Katie, Strategic Account Manager

Childlike Wonder

I absolutely love this color! It brings back memories of the walls in my daughter’s room as a child.

— Anasile, Accounts Payable Supervisor

It reminds me of the color of my daughter’s bedroom. I like the subdued tone. It feels fun and creative, but more lowkey than many purples.

— Carolyn, Director of Training & Customer Success

I like its sweet and innocent vibes. It makes me think of childhood.

— Bridget, Senior Director of Marketing

It makes me think of a Disney princess character. I would describe it as creative, curious, driven, thoughtful, sassy but gentle. It has a warm, homey feel to it, like something familiar.

— Sophia, Territory Manager

Mixed Bag

It’s the color of a generic long sleeve t-shirt with a pocket. Is there a runner-up color of the year?

— Rob, Business Analyst

I’m not a big fan of the color. It actually made me think of Kevin, the giant bird from the movie Up.

— Jaclyn, Content Marketing Specialist

It looks like the color of the knit hat you bought from a gas station because you were in the middle of nowhere in a snowstorm and had no other choice.

— Tessa, Social Media Specialist

It makes me think of technology: soft, but firm.

— Bill, Chief Information Officer
