Everyone loves to celebrate spring. It’s the perfect time to organize an event in your community, and it’s a great opportunity to help your current and new residents get to know one another. Here are a few spring dates you may not be aware of that you can plan a fun event around.
International Women’s Day – March 8
In 2023, the theme of International Women’s Day (IWD) is “#EmbraceEquity.” Celebrate women's achievement, raise awareness about discrimination, and take action to drive gender parity. The theme stresses that International Women's Day belongs to everyone, everywhere, and inclusion means all IWD action is valid.
St. Patrick’s Day – March 17
No explanation required for this day. Why not organize a St. Patrick’s Day party (while social distancing) with lots of decorations from your local dollar store? Serve lots of green festive goodies, sandwiches, snacks, and refreshments. Invite residents to attend dressed in their best green attire. This is a great opportunity to take photos and post the event to your social networks.
Take a Walk in the Park Day – March 30
Organize a morning or after-work walk in your local park. Encourage residents to bring along their families or dogs for the stroll. They can also bring their cameras and take photographs. Afterwards, hold an Instagram photography contest with the one gaining the most votes winning a picnic basket for two.
National Deep Dish Pizza Day – April 5
Celebrate by holding a pizza party in the club room. Provide plenty of deep dish pizza and soft drinks, and ask your residents to bring a salad or dessert to share. Deep dish-style pizza is optional—as long as everyone is enjoying a slice of their preferred ‘za.
Earth Day – April 22
On Earth Day this year, encourage residents to find ways to achieve sustainability. Make sure your community provides eco-friendly resources, such as recycling and energy efficient appliances. Let residents know there are sustainable options for furnishing their spaces (hint: rental furniture instead of fast furniture) and avoid sending more textiles and old furniture to landfills.
World Book Day – April 23
World Book Day is a great day to organize a reading and book sale. Ask residents to bring their used books to the club house and ask volunteers if they would read a few pages of their favorite book. Afterward, let residents purchase each other’s books with all proceeds going to a local charity. Consider building a free community library with additional book donations so residents can borrow and return new reads.
